Lady Demons Sweep Season’s Last Weekly Awards

Southland Players of the Week are presented by UniversalCoin.com. Channing Burleson combined for 43 digs across two Northwestern State sweeps. She dug 26 attacks against Nicholls, the most among conference players in a three-set conference match this season. She added seven assists in the contest. Against McNeese, the Midland, Texas, native had 17 digs, including multiple pancakes to extend rallies. Averaging more than seven digs per set this week, Burleson upped her conference-best digs per set to average 5.50 in league matches. With 330 digs in Southland matches, Burleson closes it out the season as one of two league players to record past the 300 mark. Honorable Mention: Madison Woods, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi; Bryaunea Hall, UIW; Lexus Cain, Stephen F. Austin Reagan Rogers, the Southland leader in total kills and kills per set in conference matches, led Northwestern State to a pair of straight-set victories to close the regular season heading into this week’s Southland Tournament. Down 19-16 in the second set against McNeese, Rogers took serve and led her team to a 9-0 scoring streak to win the set, stringing together three aces in that time. Her 13 kills against the Cowgirls came after a 17-kill performance against Nicholls. Rogers also added 15 digs against the Colonels to register her 12th double-double of the season, tied for third-most in the conference.last_img
